I just read Superman Returns Prequel #4 and I find that it puts my mind at ease regarding many of the timeline aspects of Superman Returns. For one, it is Perry White's idea to write a "Why the World Needs Superman" article, five years after his disappearance. Not being able to write it, Lois instead writes "Why the World Doesn't Need Superman". It's supposed to be a retrospective piece, and by writing it, Lois is able to get over a large portion of her feelings of loss regarding Superman.
The story also explains the Richard timeline. Apparently, he and Lois meet shortly after the first publication of the discovery of Krypton story. He basically supplants Clark in her life, and takes control of their relationship, initiating the romantic aspects upon first meeting her. The baby still might not work...unless Jason was born at eight months...or Kryptonian gestation is different than that of humans.
The story also made mention of the fact that Lois apparently has great need for an editor, as she can't spell worth a damn. I really wondered when I was watching the movie, why she thought catastrophe would be spelled with "one 'f' or two?". Thank you Andreyko. As the absorbascon often says, "read Manhunter".
So, I liked the comic. I'd rate it at GOOD...probably no higher since it really needs the film to give it context.
What did you think?
