Wait a minute...haven't I read this book already? Yes! I did! I was called World War Hulk #5! And at least that book, even though it was such a dumb ending, was beautiful to look at.
This entire issue is wasted on a long, drawn out fight between Ion Mark II and Emoboy Prime. They bash each other around, through the country, through the world, through NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS, and still there's not even a resolution by the end of the issue. What a waste. AWFUL.

Punisher War Journal #12
Punisher War Journal #12
With this issue, Matt Fraction proves himself once again to be one of the best current writers in the business. And he's possibly the best current Marvel writer.
Fraction brings Olivetti's beautiful art back to the title and does a World War Hulk one-shot. And being that WWH is pretty much over the top as it is, Fraction takes this story COMPLETELY over the top! He puts the Punisher into a role as protector of the civillian remnant of Manhattan from an army of Miek-like bugs led by a ridiculously buff superbug.
Frank's new partner gives him some nice new weaponry.
Dual Chainsaws.
A huge knife.
Taser Guns.
Lightweight guns that fire explosive polymer rounds...or something.
And another gun.
That fires swords.
And then he gets a Venomech suit. Yes, it's a suit that acts like the Venom symbiote on Frank. It protects him from harm - to an extent. It multiplies his strength by a tremendous extent. And it can make guns. Huge organomechanic guns whose rounds could punch a hole in a tank.
Oh my GOD. I laughed so hard, I cried while reading this issue.
Oh, and Frank rescues a kitty cat.
Twice.

Tentacle Rape!!! And Humbug wants to get it on with the Brood Queen! Ewwwww. Plus, a fairly nonsensical backup story featuring Paladin and The Scorpion. All in all, even with the extra pages, this issue's completely unnecessary CRAP. It's not necessary to read this in order to fully enjoy World War Hulk, and in fact, I would advise against reading it.

Not a WWH crossover. So, this issue has Iron Man having come out the other side of World War Hulk, apparently none the worse for wear. Why couldn't Marvel have delayed this issue by a week or two so that it didn't completely ruin a critical moment from WWH for us? And...
it's back to sucking. As good as last issue was, this issue is bad. I could hardly interest myself in reading this CRAP.

See? Now that's what I'm talking about! None of that stupid melodrama rehash flashback crap from last issue. Real forward momentum! This is VERY GOOD stuff. What makes it so good is that I honestly can't see any way out of this mess for the Hulk other than his total victory followed by he and his warbound leaving Earth. But if he is able to declare victory, then what does that mean for the rest of the planet's heroes? And if he wins, why would he leave? Yet, if he loses, how could this title possibly continue? It is specifically these questions that elevate this book to VERY GOOD status.
How much sweeter would it have been if Ghost Rider had stuck around to join the "Renegades"?
And HELL YEAH! General Ross gets fitted with an "Obedience Disk!" RIGHT ON! I wonder who he's going to have to go up against in the arena. I hope it's somebody really powerful, and he gets his puny white ass fried.

This miniseries actually published a letters column! And one of those letters was mine! The best thing about it was that I didn't discover this on my own. One of my friends bought the issue, but he never reads the letters columns - he just reads the stories (in the bathroom). Well, he left the issue there, and his wife, who never reads the stories - she only reads the letters columns - saw it and said that she'd read my letter. Of course, not having read the issue yet, I had NO IDEA what she was talking about. So she explained. This is the third letter, as far as I'm aware, that's been published. (The others were in FNSM#13 and USM#110.) And it feels really good. It feels like validation. It feels like VICTORY! Now I only need to get close to the number of letters Adrian Watts has had published. Heh. Fat chance. That dude's got some wicked amazing joss to have been published as much as he has. I'm waiting for Marvel to notice him and give him a shot writing, because, yeah, if they think he's good enough to publish six letters from him per week, then he's definitely better than some of the godawful writers they've got in the bullpen currently. Here's to you, Adrian!

If all issues of this title are as good as this one, I just might have to seriously reevaluate my take on it. I haven't read this book since right after Ellis left. It sucked then, too, it's just that it never came out, so I was giving the full story a chance. Then Civil War happened. I've got to say, that didn't pique my interest in this series one bit. Reading about an awful fascist? I'll pass. But now? World War Hulk? I love the concept. I wasn't sure how it could be dragged through so many series, yet it almost seems like too few now, I mean, what about Fantastic Four and FF2? Sure, some writers have seriously dropped the ball on this, and by that I mean Ghost Rider and Heroes for Hire with their crappy, nearly unrelated tie-ins, and, of course, the X-Men mini. But there's no way that I could follow WWH and not read this title. And you know what? I'm glad that I did. Because it's VERY GOOD.

After the great stories of the past two issues, this one was somewhat of a letdown. The first act was spent rehashing the origins of Miek and Rick Jones, the second act involves a fight between Miek and another bug, and then the third act involves Miek and Rick resolving to be civil with each other in order to help the Hulk. That third act lasts all of two pages. What a ripoff. Seriously, that's what the entire issue should have involved - how Miek and Rick make their peace and help the Hulk. In other words: NOTHING HAPPENS IN THIS ISSUE! It's merely killing time between acts of World War Hulk and is merely idling. It sucks. Until this point, every issue had some forward momentum. And now, it all...grinds....to.....a......halt. Sorry, but I'm not letting this one go. I know that Pak can do better. Checking the recap page, four characters are featured: Hercules, Angel, Amadeus, and Namora. Yet, only Hercules has a speaking role. And that's merely a rehash of what he said last issue. The only other of these characters even featured up close is Amadeus. That's just dumb. Also, the art in this issue makes it extremely hard to comprehend exactly what is happening. Why does the ground suddenly explode beneath the Hulk? What the hell is going on in the fight between the two bugs? When did this book's art become incomprehensible? It's annoying. And it's AWFUL.

That's a really stupid idea for a comic book. Seriously, I didn't even understand it. Am I supposed to know who these people are? The only one I know is General Ross, but wasn't he dead? Or was that just a dream? This book is so poorly written that I could barely even understand it. Tell me again, HOW these people are going to make a difference? WHAT they're going to do? WHY I should care? AWFUL. Just AWFUL.

She Hulk #19

Stu Cicero! Trapped in a world he never made! What the hell does that mean - "never made" - anyways? WAUUGH! Heh.
Mallory Book proving that the leader is not responsible for his actions due to his Gamma transformation by using She-Hulk's lack of inhibitions in relation to Jennifer Walters, primarily sexually (she did NOT have sex with the Juggernaut!), is a stroke of genius. It's about time that this title got back to what really made it excel above and beyond all the other titles out there, the courtroom and lawyering dramas. It hasn't been the same since Eros worked his mojo on Jen.
Apparently the comic book guys in the reference room didn't read Peter David's recent run on the Incredible Hulk (I don't blame them), or they'd realize that the incidents they're referring to, that of the Leader transferring his mind to another body, then dying and having his brain stored in a jar, were merely a dream.
Anyways, I'm glad to see the book back with what made me love it in the first place. VERY GOOD.

I really like how this title has been focusing on background players lately. Interesting that the hulk's OWN title should barely have him in it. Of course, it would be better for the content between this book and World War Hulk to be swapped, but ah, if wishes were horses...(then beggars would ride? What does that even mean?)
VERY GOOD.
Good portrayals of Hercules and Archangel. Archangel as a reluctant hero(?!) who's essentially threatened into siding with the Hulk. I love how Hercules takes a beating from Hulk, because he KNOWS Hulk is right. Otherwise, he'd have just kept pounding on Hulk. After thousands of years, it's nice to know that Hercules can finally learn how to do what's right, without having to be drunk to do it. And I love Amadeus Cho as a recurring character.

World War Hulk #1
World War Hulk #1
While a bit unwieldly at times, this book is still one of the best things I've read since the beginning of Civil War. I can't tell you how much I was looking forward to Hulk ripping Iron Man's puny human head off. However, now that that's done, is the rest of the War going to be about taking vengeance on Reed and Strange? Not to mention Doc Samson. Anyways, a VERY GOOD start to this year's summer event from Marvel, and as I said in an earlier post, Hulk's anger is righteous and I hope that he gets his vengeance.
