JSA Classifed #32
Magical mystical mumbo-jumbo and a lacklustre fight with Grundy make this issue extremely EH. But then, I expect nothing more from this series. I'll tune in again after the current arc.

JSA Classified #29
Mr. Terrific fights Nazis embedded within the US government. It's not a bad story idea. It is however, incredibly saddled with atrocious art by Alex Sanchez. Wildcat is a giant? He's actually a cat? Jay Garrick is really fat (heh, like in the Emperor Joker story when The Flash became The Fat!)? The senator has a flesh eating bacterial infection? Really bad art. I might have enjoyed this issue otherwise, but as it is, EH.

Actually a pretty GOOD story. Nice to know it'll be done next isue too. Wildcat puts a beating on Sportsmaster, who's developed a gambling problem, and has thus bet on himself to beat Wildcat. Instead, Wildcat ends up becoming a sponsor of sorts for him, and tries to keep him out of the casinos. Apparently there's a new ring of betting parlours that caters to superhero speculation: who'll be the next member of the JLA, who'll be the next hero to die, when Ra's Al Ghul will come back to life, how long it'll take Superman to defeat the parasite, etc. Unbelievably, though, Roulette has nothing to do with it. Still, it has the makings of a GOOD story.

A cheat. We were led to believe that the villain from last issue was a vampire. He isn't. He's hopped up on some experimental street steroid - or something. And the art is absolutely atrocious. AWFUL.

This is a vampire story. Maybe I'm showing my ignorance here, but I can't recall vampires ever having been a large part of the mythology of the DCU. Sure, they're everywhere in the Marvel Universe: Blade, Bloodstone, Morbius, Wolverine: Lord of the Vampires, even Dracula. The only
vampires I can recall in the DCU are heroes from alternate dimensions or other planets - not really vampires in the traditional sense. Yet, in this issue, JT Krul - whom I've never heard of - does a vampire story. And he picks Doctor Mid-Nite as the protagonist! I don't know, but that just really doesn't strike me as a good fit. And it's not even a good story! And the art by Sanchez and Purcell is some of the ugliest work I've ever seen. The linework is sloppy, proportions are all off, and faces are really bad. This issue is AWFUL. I think I'll come back to this title in two issues to see what's next. But I'm not expecting much, because the last few issues have likewise been no good.

Ever since reading Swamp Thing's post on Ralph Dibny's blog, which he directed at Rick Tyler, I have wondered what this issue would bring. Basically, it confirms Rick's and Ralph's worst fears, and proves the point: "Swamp Thing is a Massive Asshole". Apparently Swamp Thing is currently running the Santa Priscan mobs, and is using his knowledge of all things botanical to create a new Venom drug which, once administered, is lethal to withdraw from. (Kindof like in Spider-Man 2099 - I'll have to look that up.) Anyways, knowing that Rex Tyler could find a way to undo the addiction caused by this new drug, Swamp Thing sent Bane to kidnap him. Things got worse when Rick and Bane broke into Bannerman pharmaceuticals, the company Rex was working for when he discovered Miraclo. Apparently, they hijacked the incomplete research on Miraclo, and used it to create a Super-Soldier Serum which eventually was transmuted into Venom. So now, Bane wants to kill Rex Tyler for discovering the whole thing. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Rex Tyler is Bane's last hope to be cured of his addiction. Without him, Bane will die! What a nutball. This is a GOOD issue, and, obviously, all references to Swamp Thing are completely this author's invention...or are they?
